Easter Tourist Figures good for Alghero

without comments

Easter brings the first tourists of the season to Alghero -  and despite the bad weather  the crowded streets of the old town are just like the summer.   Thousands of people passed  through the airport at  Alghero during the Easter holidays, with flights almost all full.

All the signs are good for the tourism business - with this first taste of summer. Restaurants, hotels, car rentals, shopping,  all starting to smile again at least for a few days - while awaiting the warmer months.  The only negative note was the protracted closure of the Caves of Neptune, because of restoration work not completed despite ads reopening for Easter.

Shopping in the Old Town

without comments

Alghero is full of designer clothes shops - both for men and women. Every little street seems to have at least one classy Italian clothes shop on it. Don’t think they are all called Saldi - that is Italian for “Sale” - and all of them seemed to have a “Sale” on. Even with the prices cut supposedly by 50% - many were above my budget. Most of the people strolling on the streets were well dressed - not a football shirt in sight. Most of the visitors in Alghero seemed to be Italian - with a scattering of Irish, English and Germans or Scandanavians. Not a drunken lout or any sign of bad behaviour at all. For a relaxed , peaceful holiday - Alghero is ideal. If you want all day fried breakfasts , happy hours and discos till 4am - then stay away…..please.
